Massachusetts Senator writes a bill but has no idea what it's for
Jamie Eldridge accused a media outlet of lying about his new bill
Massachusetts Senator Jamie Eldridge, who represents the Middlesex and Worcester districts accused a media publication of lying about a bill he has proposed but it turns out, he was wrong.
Eldridge proposed new legislation that would allow non-US citizens to vote and run for local office in Massachusetts. New Bedford Guide published the story on their website last Friday, detailing the bill and the changes it would make to voting statewide.
Fall River Reporter, the sister publication for New Bedford Guide and the primary X account for both, shared the story on their X account over the weekend:
But Eldridge, using his official X account, commented on the post accusing the publication for lying about the bill, stating it would not give non-US citizens the right to run for local office:
Eldridge actually linked the bill in the comment he wrote. But Fall River Reporter responded to the Senator, asking him if he even read the bill and included a screenshot of the proposed legislation:
Eldridge then responded to the media outlet, saying he was wrong and the bill did indeed include the provision:
A call to the Senator’s office at the Massachusetts State House was met with a message that his office staff is working a hybrid schedule and was not in Boston today. An email request to the Senator got the following response:
Great to see he is in control of the bill he is supposedly authoring. Maybe we should find out who the author is? Obviously not this guy. Thanks again for sharing this incompetence.
Jessica, thanks for bringing this to our attention. We need to keep calling out the politicians when they lie and hold them accountable.
